KIA ORA TEAM BAYVIEW

Winter is here along with lots of rain, wind and the occasional thunderstorm. We have noticed lots of learners walking to school without a polarfleece on on cold mornings. We know that some children just don’t feel the cold but we strongly suspect that others have misplaced their jumpers! Please know that all lost property is in containers outside Habitat 9. These are accessible out of school hours so please feel free to come and have a look for any items belonging to your child. It is very helpful to us when items are named as we can return these straight away.

ROAD SAFETY

Thank you to everyone for being mindful of safety around the school gate. Both Shelley and myself have noticed more people crossing at the patrolled pedestrian crossing. This is great role modelling for our children who will copy our actions. Thank you also to the parents who are parking in proper carparks and not on the yellow lines. This means our patrolled crossing remains safe and can function safely.

COVERED OUTDOOR LEARNING AREA

This week the foundations have been concreted in! Now we have to wait for the concrete to cure before the actual structure can be installed. We are waiting for a revised schedule of works for this but it looks likely this will happen early Term 3.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES

In September this year we are holding our triennial Board of Trustees elections. Shannon has sent home a contact sheet so we can ensure we have your correct details on file. Please take the time to fill this in. Our elections this year will be held online and we are working with a company that can provide this service to us. Now is the time to begin thinking about whether you would like to join our Board. We need committed parents who are wanting to support the school and work within Ministry of Education guidelines and Government legislation to provide positive outcomes for our learners. No previous experience is required. The timeline for this year’s elections is:

Main Roll Closes                    13 July

Nominations Called by           15 July

Supplementary Roll Closes    1 August

Nominations Close                 3 August

Invitation to Vote                    10 August

Election Day                           7 September

Declaration of Result             13 September

New board in place                14 September

ATTENDANCE

We have just received an attendance report for Bayview School for term 4 2021 comparing us to other schools within Auckland and across the country. I am happy to tell you that our attendance rate was higher than other schools of a similar type and nationally!

Our focus this year is to make up any learning that your child may have fallen behind in during the disrupted last couple of years! We can only do this well if we have a strong partnership with you. Thank you for ensuring your child gets to school each day and on time! This is supporting us to support them! Every child has the ability to flourish with their learning but they do need to be at school to do so. By ensuring they are at school you are showing them that you value their education and are supporting them to achieve! If you have any difficulties in getting your child to school please feel free to make contact with your child’s teacher as they may be able to help.
