KIA ORA TEAM BAYVIEW

Happy first day of Spring! What beautiful weather we have had recently! There is nothing better than some sunshine to help lift the spirits. Fingers crossed we continue to have lots of sunshine as we near the end of term 3.

Thank you to all our parents who have been supporting our trips and activities in the past term. A huge thanks to the parents who went to the Rippa Rugby Tournament and ended up soaking wet and muddy after some heavy downpours. Mrs Cray returned looking a bit worse for wear but the kids had a fabulous time!

Thank you to everyone who came along to support our school cross country today! It was lovely having you come back onsite encouraging your children as they challenged themselves with the run!

Thank you to our whānau who attended our whānau hui on Wednesday evening. It was a blessing to be able to meet kanohi ki te kanohi and to share our journey with you and then to get your ideas for moving forward.

I am always truly grateful for the support we receive from the community and you have really shown this over the past few weeks.

SCHOOL CAMP 2023

Next year we are taking our Year 5/6 learners on camp for 4 days. If your child is in Year 4 or 5 this year they will be bringing home some information soon about camp, how much it costs and asking permission to sell chocolates in term 4 this year to help reduce their camp fee. Please keep a look out in bags and on Seesaw for any notifications.

HOSTING VISITORS

On Wednesday 31st August I had the honour of hosting 3 principals from the South Island who wanted to visit a primary school that was part of a highly functioning kahui ako. Bayview School is part of the Kaipātiki Kahui Ako that involves Bayview Kindergarten, Marlborough Kindergarten, Glenfield Kindergarten, Manuka Primary, Glenfield Primary, Target Road Primary, Windy Ridge Primary, Marlborough Primary, Wairau Valley Special School, Glenfield Intermediate School and Glenfield College. We work very closely together to support best practice across all our schools and kindergartens. We access valuable professional development but also have the autonomy to take our own direction with each of our schools. It was lovely being able to show our visitors our fabulous learners in their element! Our Kahui Ako is held in high regard and is seen as a model for best practice across the motu.

TERM 4 STAFFING

In term 4 we welcome back Shannon Corlett who will be starting our new Year 0 class. Shannon is returning from maternity leave and will be working full time in term 4.

We also welcome back Alyssa Farrow for one day per week in term 4. Alyssa will be our acting assistant principal for term 4 and will be overseeing some of the responsibilities Mr Allison did.

BUILDING PROJECTS

Our COLA project is tracking on time and we should have our completed cover over the courts finished and ready to use by November at the latest! This is going to be an amazing resource for our school and community. There may be some construction activity on the court by the hall during the October term break.

During the October break Vector will be completing an upgrade of the power supply coming into the school. You may notice some works happening around the front of the school while Vector complete this. We hope this does not cause any inconvenience to our community.

In term 4 we are also kicking off a refurbishment project that includes the flood reparations from March! This will cause a bit of disruption to some classes during term 4 and a separate note will be coming home to the families of affected learners. We will do our best to ensure all our learners are safe and happy during this time. I know you will support us as we try to upgrade our classrooms to become modern learning spaces that suit our learners needs.

LITTER-FREE LUNCHES

Did you know that we do not have rubbish bins around our school? We actively encourage our learners to bring litter-free lunches to school to reduce the amount of rubbish we contribute to our whenua. Since doing this we have been able to downgrade the size of our skip bin, we have had much less rubbish around our school and as a result have contributed much less to landfill. We challenge you during conservation week next week to send your child to school with no extra wrapping around their food. How can you reduce the amount of packaging in your child’s lunchbox? You will notice that any packaging you use is brought home in your child’s lunchbox.

DAFFODIL DAY

Team Bayview you rock! What an amazing contribution you made to support cancer research! The donations of baking were amazing and all up with the bake sale and the gold coin donation we raised a very healthy $1542.70.

SPORTING SUCCESS

We are very fortunate to have two national champions at Bayview School. Ryan and Shanelly Wanigasekera

both won medals at the New Zealand National Karate Cup 2022. After a very tough competition, Ryan won a Gold medal for his Kumite (Fighting) and Shanelly won a Silver medal for her Kata. They are both officially National Champions now :).

So proud of both you!
