Kia ora Team Bayview
Not to cause alarm but there are only 4 weeks left of school for 2025, and there are 42 days until Christmas! The year has flown by.
ATHLETICS
Thank you to everyone who managed to come along to either the senior or junior athletics days last week. We were very lucky with the weather and managed to get through all events. Our learners had a great experience and really gave their best!
Our winners from the Year 9-11 year old athletics will be representing Bayview School at the interschool athletics day on Wednesday 26th November. This is being held at the Birkenhead War Memorial Park. Parents and supporters are welcome to come along and cheer our athletes on! Bayview is organising and running this event so any additional help would be appreciated.
ONEPOTO CULTURAL FESTIVAL
The Onepoto Cultural festival is back and we are sending our Kapa Haka group along to perform. This is an awesome day celebrating the cultures we have in our schools across the North Shore. Along with the performances there are many food stalls where you can try cuisines from different ethnicities.
Bayview is performing at 10.15am on the outside stage.
PATROLS
This week we have had Senior Constable Louise Nicholas, our schools liaison officer from the NZ Police, training our 2026 school patrols children. Senior Constable Louise makes the decision if the trainees become patrollers or not. If the children have not displayed the appropriate level of skill they are not given a spot on the patrols roster. This job is really important and requires a level of responsibility and maturity to ensure our younger learners are safe as they cross Bayview Road.
Parents of these learners have also been invited to put their name forward to be the adult on patrols with their children. If you are interested in being a parent supervisor you can message Megan McGuire [email protected] and let her know your preferred day and time i.e. mornings or afternoons. You do not need to have your child on patrols. It is a rewarding job and can be quite nostalgic reliving your time as a school patrols person in Year 6!
TOILETING
We are having a few issues recently with some children not using the toilets properly. For some they need to practice sitting on the toilet or to aim accurately. Others are having issues wiping themselves after they have been to the toilet. This tends to be happening at break time so it is really difficult to know who is having the problem. If you have a child whom you know has difficulty with this can you please take some time to practice the skills at home. We use the following points to support learners:
- I let my teacher know I need to go to the toilet.
- I put my shoes on before I go to the toilet.
- I close the door and do what I need to IN the toilet.
- I flush the toilet when I am finished.
- I wash my hands with soap at the tap.
- I dry my hands and make sure the paper towel goes in the bin.
LIBARAY STOCKTAKE
Please return all library books now! We really do need all books back for the stocktake!
Could you also please start returning any other school reading books or resources your child has brought home (including any coloured tokens!).
MEASLES
You will be aware of current measles cases across the country. Please make sure we have your most up to date vaccination certificate on file. You can check with Shannon in the office if you are unsure. Please note that if we have an active case of measles at Bayview School we may have to ask affected students to stay at home i.e. those in close contact and those who do not have proof of full vaccination.
CHRISTMAS CULTURAL EVENT
On Friday the 5th December we will be holding our annual Christmas event where we invite our community to join us for a picnic dinner and some entertainment from our children. This year we are celebrating the many cultures we have at Bayview School. It starts at 5pm and finishes at 7pm.
As we move into the festive season, we want to share our approach to celebrating this special time of year. We joyfully recognize that for many families in our community, Christmas is a cherished and central tradition, and we will be honoring its themes of peace and goodwill. We also know that this season is a significant time for families from many different backgrounds, who celebrate other festivals of light, family, and reflection. Our school’s goal is one of “and, not or.” We will celebrate the traditions of Christmas and make space to respectfully acknowledge the diverse beliefs that make our community so rich, focusing on the shared values—like kindness, generosity, and community—that unite us all.
FAREWELL ASSEMBLY
We have made a change to the timing of our farewell assembly this year. We are moving this special assembly to 12.15pm on Friday the 12th December. At this assembly we will say farewell to our Year 6 learners and any staff who are leaving. All our learners will be dismissed from the hall to go on their summer break. They will have their bag and belongings with them. If you are not attending the farewell assembly please pick your child up from the hall at 1pm.
