What an amazing term! Our structured literacy and structured maths programmes are well entrenched and we are seeing the benefits of this with our learners. Alongside this we have been engaging our learners through a range of activities and learning opportunities designed to spark joy in learning!
KOTAHITANGA:
Kotahitanga is our overarching concept for 2025. Kotahitanga, a Māori concept, signifies unity, togetherness, and solidarity, emphasizing collective action and achieving common goals through inclusivity and respect for diverse perspectives. During term one we have been exploring this through EOTC.
Y0-2 Kotahitanga
This week we have had a focus on Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) with our Year 0-2 learners having their own Camp at school on Tuesday. Here are some photos of our Y0-2’s living their best lives! A huge thank you to the teachers and parents who provided such an amazing event for our learners.

We had camp at school. We rode the scooters and learnt how to weave harakeke. We made huts, designed flags, built boats and roasted marshmallows over the camp fire. We even went fishing!
Y3/4 Kotahitanga
On Wednesday night the brave and courageous Year 4 learners had a sleepover in the school hall. They had to bring their sleeping gear and toothbrushes and clothes for Thursday! They arrived at school at 6pm for a fun night. They visited the glow worms on the Lynn reserve track (sorry to the neighbours that may have heard us!). They brought their torches and had fun navigating the track in the dark. They were very brave!

The next day (today) they had a full day of EOTC activities along with our Year 3 learners. The Year 4’s started their day with breakfast at school. They had to brush their teeth and get themselves organised for the day of EOTC activities. They learnt how to put up a tent, build a hut, weave harakeke and completed an orienteering course around the school. Everyone had BBQ’d sausages for lunch and biscuits and apples for morning tea! What a fun 21 hours!
Yr5/6 Kotahitanga
Our Year 5 and 6 learners have been out at Camp Adair in the Hunua ranges this week. I had the privilege of going out and visiting on Tuesday and was so impressed with our children and their resilience! I saw the biggest smiles and heard the best one liners! “Ms Raynes can you reclassify me so I can come on camp again”, “Ms Raynes can you please let my friend at school know I am having the best time at camp”. Unfortunately I went on the day it decided to rain but it was still an amazing day!

Good luck to the parents of these children trying to wash their clothes this weekend!
Thank you so much to everyone who got involved, helped out, and gave their time or resources to make all our EOTC activities such a huge success. We truly appreciate the partnership we have with you. Together we can make magic happen!
End of Term 1
Please note term 1 finishes at 2pm on Friday, 11th April.
Please note this is the day our Year 5/6 learners return to camp, so there will be increased traffic around the school as parents pick up tired children and all their gear!

On Thursday 27th March we took three sports teams to Glenfield College to compete in a sports day against other primary schools in our Kaipatiki Kahui Ako Cluster. Our students were coached by year 13 students from Glenfield College. These year 13 students also refereed their games and supported the students during the day. It was a fantastic day full of teamwork, encouragement and sportspersonship, especially from some students who had never played before.
Our football team did particularly well, drawing their first game and winning the rest coming away with the top spot for the day. Well done to Mila Carruthers who earned the football team’s Player of the Day award.
Cayden Karanui earned the Player of the Day for the touch rugby team and Mischa Atkinson earned the Netball Player of the Day award. Well done to all the students who participated in the day, you made our school proud.
