Kia ora Team Bayview
Can you believe that we are just over half way through the term? Term 1 does finish on Thursday the 2nd of April as Friday the 3rd of April is Easter Good Friday. At least we have the fine weather now!
UNIFORM
Thank you to all our parents who are ensuring their children wear the correct uniform to school each day. Just a reminder that our uniform is sold through Janbells https://janbells.co.nz/collections/bayview-primary-school Please note all learners should be in the regulation school jumper, school polo shirt, and navy blue shorts, skort, or trousers.
PLEASE name all your child’s clothing so we can return it to them should they misplace an item!
PARTNERSHIP MEETINGS
In the last week of term 1 we will be holding partnership meetings. You will be invited by your child’s teacher to make a time to come in and learn about the progress your child has made this term and how they are as a learner. This is a great opportunity to find out if your child is on track to meet the expectations in the current NZ curriculum. The teacher will reach out soon to invite you to make a time to meet. They will do this through Seesaw.
WELCOME TO OUR NEW LEARNERS
Welcome to these fabulous new learners who have joined us this year:
Wai AUNG, May AUNG, Ryleigh PHILLIPS, Maddie DE VRIES, Neuer ZHOU, Harley JUCH, Esther SILVA DE FRANCA
KIWI KAI CAFE
Did you know that from 8.30am – 8.50am each day we open the ‘Kiwi Kai Cafe’ breakfast club! Any child is welcome to come along and enjoy a hearty Weetbix breakfast. Please note this is open to anyone (even if they have already had breakfast!). All they have to do is turn up, no enrolment necessary. They do need to be there by 8.45 ish though as the volunteers start tidying everything away from 8.50am.
ROAD SAFETY
Congratulations to all our parents who are following the road rules around Bayview School. We truly appreciate that you are mindful of keeping all our kids safe. You are legends!
STEM
This year we have created a leader of STEM role which has been filled by Mrs Janelle Staples. Mrs Staples is working to strengthen our technology curriculum at Bayview.
EVENTS
Bayview School offers so many amazing opportunities for our learners to shine. Alongside our curriculum we hold events that support our learners other interests and passions. Ms Megan McGuire holds responsibility for overseeing our events. Megan runs whole school events, fundraisers and special events our learners propose. She ensures each event aligns with our kaupapa and does an amazing job of keeping everyone informed! Keep an eye on the QR code and any messages on Seesaw for upcoming events.
ASSEMBLIES
We hold whole school assemblies each Friday at 9.10am. Each week 2-3 classes oversee the assembly. If your child is receiving a learning certificate the class teacher will let you know to give you the opportunity to attend.
The assembly hosting schedule for the rest of the term is:
6 March – H18, 3, 10
13 March – H19, 6
20 March – H17, 8
27 March – H1, 2, 14
2 April (Thursday) – H11, 15
HOUSE COMPETITION
Each week at assembly we announce which house has won the most points over the previous week. So far harakeke (Blue) and Kauanuanu (yellow) have won. Their flags have been displayed in the hall and the office. I wonder who will win tomorrow?
The house that accumulates the most points over the year win the house shield and have their colour badge put on the shield.
Houses are given challenges regularly where they can be awarded points. At the moment our staff are working on their house challenge (which will be revealed soon) and the children have the challenge of coming up with a house chant. These will be shared at assembly this Friday (tomorrow).
ATHLETICS DAYS
Thank you to all our parents and caregivers who managed to come up to school this week to support our athletics days. We know it can be tricky to attend school events during your own work time.
The children had a great time sharing their skills in running, jumping and throwing.
Some of our 8, 9, and 10 year olds will be representing Bayview School at the cluster athletics day being held on Friday the 20th March at the Birkenhead Memorial park. If your child is selected you will receive a special note asking you to give permission.
MINISTRY OF EDUCATION TEACHER ONLY DAY
Please note we have our final Ministry of Education Mathematics teacher only day on Tuesday the 6th June. This is the day after King’s Birthday weekend. We are letting you know this now so you can make plans. The school will be closed on this day.
PARENT SUPPORT
Did you know that there is a website called KidsLink to support whānau to find trusted services for learning, behaviour and well-being. There are also articles, parent information and checklists which might be helpful. You can find the link here – KidsLink

SCHOOL POLICIES:
School policies are the responsibility of the Bayview School Board. We use School Docs for our school policies as they are regularly reviewed by experts to ensure they comply with current legislation. There is a 3 year cycle for review and each term School Docs indicate which policies are due for review. Under each policy sits procedures around how the school enacts the policy. These are the responsibility of the Principal and Leadership team.
Policies can be found at: www.schooldocs.co.nz
(Username: Bayview Password: icare)
The Term One Review is now open. This term we are reviewing some of the policies in the Safety On and Off School Grounds section. For more information go to the school docs website, find the ‘Current Review’ tab at the top of the SchoolDocs site.
Here is a summary of the current reviews:
- Alcohol, Drugs, and other harmful substances policy
- Digital Technology and Online Safety
- Cellphones and Other Personal Digital Devices
Parents are also able to provide feedback on any policies currently being reviewed. To do so click on the ‘Start your Review’ button.
You can find instructions on how to submit reviews by going to the ‘Reviews’ tab on our schools dashboard and look for ‘Instructions for reviewers’.
