Kia ora Team Bayview

Thank you so much to everyone who has managed to come and watch one of our production performances. We have received some wonderful feedback from audience members. Hopefully you learned more about the history of our wonderful Bayview suburb and learned that together we all determine the healthy future of our environment and surrounds. The show really brought the Aotearoa New Zealand History curriculum to life!

I am so incredibly grateful for:

  • Our amazing tamariki for their acting and dancing skills. They put their hearts and soul into each performance and brought the production to life!
  • Our amazing staff. We have the best staff who give their all for Bayview School. Our staff have been painting and creating and sewing and dancing and having a great laugh along the way.
  • Our amazing directors and producers: Elleen Davids and Megan McGuire. They have pulled all the threads together and woven a beautiful tapestry of storytelling, dance and drama!
  • Our production crew: Donald Weir and Leyvaine Davids for making all the bells, whistles, lights, fog and sound come together!
  • Our amazing parents who have given up their time to make and paint props, sew costumes, put makeup on kids, distribute dinners, sell food in the kitchens and be able to be flexible and filling a spot when required.
  • Mr Corbett who has been building props and stages and painting and sorting every little thing to ensure the production worked.
  • Our community for working alongside us, knowing traffic was a bit heavier and parking was full, but understanding that this is only for 3 days every second year. We appreciate you!
  • The wonderful feedback in person after a performance or through emails sent or on Facebook! I share this with the staff as we all love to read this. I know that you understand that to pull off a show like this it takes a lot of time and energy and this is all on top of normal teaching duties, so to receive positive feedback makes it all worthwhile!
  • Everyone who came and watched and cheered and applauded! Our actors feed off the audience’s energy, so thank you for showing our tamariki that you appreciate them!
  • Generators that keep the power going for lights and sound.
  • Aunties coffee to keep us going.
  • Ex pupils that come back and help as stage hands or with make up or costumes.
  • For family members and partners of staff who have been voluntold to come and help.
  • Our student teachers on practicum who thought they were coming to Bayview for a normal practicum…. But ended up being invaluable to the production.
  • Our kahui ako for supporting us by helping to paint art work for display in the hall and as props on stage, and for coming to be a great audience at the matinee.
  • Bayview Kindy and Bayview Early Learning Centre for coming to the matinee and being a great audience!
  • The after school care staff who have supported our tamariki who needed to attend their service and who helped some very tired children survive!
  • And finally, our staff are very grateful for 2pm on Friday afternoon so they can get some rest!!!!!

We have been so lucky this year to have so much support from our community. This year we have a sound and lighting technician from the film industry working on our lights and sound. We have been well supported by a range of businesses and ask that if you are looking for something in their industry that you consider them. A special thanks to:

  •  PJ, Harcourts Cooper and Co.
  • Barry Lancaster – coordinating all the food each night of the performance.
  • Those Guys J and M, providing the yummy cookies
  • The ‘Ansum Pastry Co.
  • Billy’s Kitchen, supporting with the food each night and the equipment for this.
  • Magnets NZ
  • Big Brand and Signage
  • Glenfield intermediate (Mrs Hoy and the arts team)
  • Resene Albany
  • Heads Up Scaffolding
  • Surplustronics
  • DD Productions
  • Aidan Collins Photography
  • Forever South Ltd

BAYVIEW SCHOOL ECO WARRIORS

Did you know that the Bayview School Eco Warriors have been busy this year restoring an area of our local bush in Glastron Reserve? Led by Mr Corbett and Ms Fink, we have worked closely with Angi from Pest Free Kaipatiki to cut back jasmine plants that are smothering our native trees. Our efforts are revealing seedings that were hidden, and we have uncovered lots of ferns and other important trees. Pest Free Kaipatiki will be holding a working bee in the holidays to continue the amazing mahi, and we’d love our Eco Warriors, their whānau, and any other keen community members to be there to get even more work done. The working bee will be Friday 3rd October from 3-4:30pm. Glastron Reserve is at the end of Glastron Place.

OUT OF ZONE ENROLMENTS

Our out of zone enrolments are open and close on the 8th October at 3pm. If you live out of our school zone and would like to enrol your child at Bayview School to start in 2026, you will need to complete an out of zone enrolment. Forms can be found on our website or you can contact Shannon in the office and she will be able to help you. Please note if your child is already enrolled you do not need to reapply.

STRIKE NOTIFICATION

Please note that all primary teachers who are union members will be on strike on Thursday 23rd October. Bayview School will not be closed but we will only have a skeleton staff onsite to supervise learners. We will share more details next term about the organisation of this day. The government may make teachers a better offer between then and now so fingers crossed this can be resolved prior to the strike action.

BOARD ELECTIONS

Congratulations to our new Bayview Board members:

Jacob Allison

Shar Li-Lee

Rachel Mousley

Joy Davidson

Luke Roberts

These Board members have now taken office but due to our production we will not meet until next term.

I would like to thank every candidate who ran for this office. Being a school governor is not an easy task but it is incredibly rewarding.

I look forward to working with our new board to continue to build on our successes.
