Kia ora Team Bayview

Welcome back to term 2! We hope you had some restful time off over the Easter and ANZAC breaks. The weather wasn’t great but it is always nice to turn the alarm off for the mornings.

Thankfully we were relatively unscathed from the storms over the term break. We did get some activations from our alarm during Cyclone Tam and we apologise if the alarm going off interrupted your sleep.

KOTAHITANGA:

Kotahitanga is our overarching concept for 2025. Kotahitanga, a Māori concept, signifies unity, togetherness, and solidarity, emphasizing collective action and achieving common goals through inclusivity and respect for diverse perspectives. During term two we will be exploring this through the Social Sciences curriculum including the Aotearoa New Zealand Histories curriculum.

EDUCATION OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM

At the end of term 1 we held a big focus on EOTC. Our Year 5 and 6 learners spent the last week of term at YMCA Camp Adair, our Year 4 learners had a sleepover in the school hall and a walk in Lynn Reserve to look at the glow worms, our Year 3 and 4 learners had a full day of onsite EOTC activities and our Y1 and 2 learners also had a school based camp where they completed a range of challenging EOTC activities. EOTC builds resilience in our learners. The activities are challenging and require grit and determination and often team work. Watching our children build huts, climb 14m high poles, building rafts and get immersed in the environment was a delight and our children excelled.

A HUGE thank you to the parents and caregivers that attended the camp or the sleepover or the activity days. You were amazing! We couldn’t provide these amazing opportunities if we didn’t have your support, so thank you! A big thank you also to our staff who got in behind these events pouring their time and energy to ensure everything was organised, safe and engaging. We are lucky to have such a talented and dedicated staff and such a supportive community.

PRODUCTION 2025

This year we will fully immerse ourselves again in a whole school production. This years production covers the history of the Bayview area. This is the reason we are learning through the Social Science and Aotearoa NZ Histories curriculums in T2. Our learners will be delving into history and taking some trips to help bring this alive!

We will be sending out more information in and around the production later this term and early in term 3. We will be needing lots of helpers in all kinds of ways and we would love your help!

SHOWQUEST AND TOI

This year we are once again entering into Showquest and Toi – wearable arts competitions. Mrs Davids is overseeing this with help from Ms McGuire and a range of parents. This group are currently rehearsing and creating ready for show night on the 17th June (Showquest) and 19th June (Toi)!
