               HOME-SCHOOL LINK (Homelink)
 
 
Home-school link work has a place for children, where school related activities and skills being taught are consolidated, extended and enriched with the support and encouragement of parents.   It is also a major opportunity for children to practice their independence in learning and self directed initiative skills taught in the classroom.
 
Purposes
1.      To encourage purposeful communication at home and to provide a positive link between home and school that enhances a child's learning.
2.      To assist children in developing an independent attitude to study routines and the effective use of time organisation and prioritisation.
3.      To broaden knowledge of current issues.
4.      To reinforce knowledge and practise skills previously taught in the classroom.
 
Guidelines
1.      Home-school link should be relevant to the individual child's needs.
2.      Teacher directions to the child should be clear, concise and at a level that ensures child understanding.
3.      Parents are encouraged to acknowledge their child's efforts and only offer help when asked by their child
4.      Home-school link could be:
          -        Rich learning tasks
          -        Completion of unfinished work
          -        Research
          -        The gathering of resources and/or information for forthcoming inquiry’s
          -        Discussion of current events
          -        Basic Facts practice
          -        Reading every night
          -        Linguistic activities based on readers
          -        Mastery of spelling and recognition of high frequency words
5.      Teachers will encourage sharing of home-school link as effective feedback and feed forward of work achieved or learning undertaken.
6.       Excellence in home-school link work will be rewarded at assembly on a regular basis.
7.       Opportunities for home-school link work for children should be given only when the teacher is sure that individual children have the skills, knowledge and access to the necessary resources or data, to successfully complete their task independently.
